OVERVIEW
Internship
During the summer of 2023, I interned at the Authoring Design team for Adobe Express. I had so much fun learning the Express product and solving design problems with our amazing team. I feel honored and lucky to have Mila Levkovsky as my manager and Lilian Lin as my mentor. They gave me full support and made my project and internship shine throughout the summer. Special thanks to Steph, Eric, Alex, Hilary, Kathie, Ryan, Jenna, Jorge, Megan, Kino, and Ben.
My role
As an Experience Design intern, I worked on AI/ML experience design for a webpage authoring tool at Adobe Express. I explored blue-sky concepts for the future of the web, closely worked with PMs on MVP and fast-follow work, and collaborated with engineers to understand the feasibility. I also worked on a future framework that enables seamless editing workflow and empowers end-to-end experience with imaging, video, motion, and future GenAI editing capabilities.
INTERNSHIP MILESTONE
DESIGN PROCESS
User Research
I defined the problem of the current web editing tool for Express and conducted user research. I conducted a competitive analysis to explore gaps and opportunities from competitors and user interviews to understand user problems.
Design & Iterate
I conducted a brainstorming session with the design team and iterated design based on feedback from different groups, including designers, PMs, and engineers. I worked on future explorations of creative expression and authoring capabilities for imaging, video, motion, GenAI, and future web content. I also worked on the MVP/fast-follow work that is available to be shipped in the near term.
The project is under NDA, so it cannot be shown or described to public in detail.
OUTCOMES
The biggest impact I made throughout the summer is that my intern project influenced the future vision of the Express product and the strategic planning of resources and investment. I shared my explorations with leadership groups, impacting design teams according to the future framework and authoring capabilities. Reflection
I learned a lot about embracing ambiguity, asking the right questions, and delivering an end-to-end experience at a scale of cross-functional products. Also, it was a great opportunity to learn how to collaborate and communicate with different teams like product management, engineers, and designers on shipping a project. During the internship, I was inspired by the passion and creative energy of the people at Adobe. It was an incredibly amazing experience that empowered me to be creative and genuine.
